2008 BMW 1 Series

Company : BMW
Model : 1 Series
Year : 2008

Filling a void that has been long empty, the 2008 BMW 1 Series is a lightweight two-door 4-passenger coupe that comes in two flavors, the 128i and the M-inspired 135i. Power for the 128i comes from the BMW workhorse 3.0L 230hp in-line 6-cylinder engine. For the 135i, enjoy the power of a twin-turbocharged 300hp 6-cylinder engine. Both models come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic option.

With an expected MSRP of around $27,000 for the 128i, and $32,000 for the 135i, the 1 Series offers some serious driving performance in an affordable package. The exterior of the 128i is clean and nice-looking with distinctively-shaped new tail lights and attractive running lights. Many options and accessories are available for the 128i.

The 135i on the other hand is already endowed with a bounty of standard performance features inspired by the BMW M. Take for example, the road tuned suspension, enhanced braking power, and the 18-inch wheels. Improving the performance as well as the appearance of the new 135i is the included aerodynamics kit which features an efficient air intake dam and wind-tunnel engineered side-sills.

On the inside, the 1 Series 135i pulls more influence from the BMW M with its rich suede or faux suede upholstery trim. Other familiar cues include an MP3 input jack, superior audio system, and touch-screen or voice-activated navigation. A convenient 60/40 split folding rear seat adds functionality.

No auto manufacturer puts more effort into safety than BMW, and the 2008 BMW 1 Series is a prime example. The 128i and the 135i are equipped with 6 airbags, steel-reinforced door beams, forward and aft crumple zones, and speed-sensitive steering. Giving the public the option of a lightweight sports coupe with the performance specs of the 1 Series has been anticipated for years. Not since the inception of the 3 Series has there been such a high level of expectation.
